2nd XI HONOURS!

At Marespool this afternoon, Stuart Seaton, fresh from a few days in Madrid, led his troops to an emphatic win over Neath by 183 runs! And, following the defeat of second placed Ynysygerwyn at the same time, to..

The Premier League West 2nd XI Championship!

In a nutshell, our 2nd XI batted first after losing the toss and amassed 269 runs for the loss of 6 wickets at tea..purposeful! Cam Protheroe’s run-a-ball 85no was the main contribution, more than ably backed up by Gareth Baglow (34), Jaimie Thomas (46) and Ben Jones (45).

In reply, our visitors were bowled out for just 86 in the 36th over..ruthless! After Jamie Sheldon (2-16) had removed both openers, spinners Sam Harris (4-22) and Ben Again (3-23) saw off the rest!

It’s no easy job skippering a 2nd XI, balancing the need for the development of promising youngsters with ensuring that the more experienced guys are ready to meet the calls of the 1st XI, often at short notice. Stuart Seaton does a great job for the Club in each of these respects, as well as having to deal with all the frustrations of non-availability of players for a variety of reasons seemingly week in, week out. Seats will come out with the cliche of all this season’s success being entirely down to a fine team effort..of course it was but, make no mistake, this Championship would not have been secured at all had it not been for all the terrific efforts of Seats, both on the field AND behind the scenes! Well done, Seats, and well done to all the other 27 guys who have played for the 2nd XI this season..so far! There are still two games left to play! Thanks, lads!

The 1st XI failed to bring any cheer to The Don on his 90th birthday today as they surrendered meekly to Neath at The Gnoll.

Put into bat, Noddy’s Lads were rolled over for a mere 74 in 32 overs. In reply, Dan Roberts (2-28 from 10 overs) tried his hardest, as Max Phillips and Jack Straw each hung on to a good catch to reduce the home side to 6-2 in the third over!

Maybe? Nah, not a bit of it! No further problems were encountered by the host batsmen who duly raced to victory by 8 wickets in the 22nd over.

Our fellow table-topping ‘A’ XI’s game at Cimla was cancelled this morning as The Cimla Oval was waterlogged after much rain overnight.

Next Saturday, the 1st XI play host to Ammanford, the 2nd XI travel there whilst the ‘A’ XI meet GWR on Platform One at Murton Station.
