7th May 2024 Mumbles CC

EL PRESIDENTE!

Having served three years as President of MCC, Dave Thomas retired at the end of last month.

We thank Dave so much for his time at the helm, and especially for his typically wise & invaluable counsel whenever required behind the scenes. See you at HQ when the new season kicks off, Dave!

The Management Committee were delighted this week when Life Member Jerry Steele had no hesitation in accepting the invitation to succeed Dave.

Jerry has been part of Mumbles CC since 1969, and in several capacities along the way! His official roles have included 1st XI Captain, Captain of our Sunday XI which played friendly matches every Sunday throughout the season “back in the day”, Committee Member, Vice Chairman and prolific/feared seam bowler. No-one will come close to Jerry’s record here, as he took over 1000 wickets for the Club!

After not quite making it after a trial for Somerset (having the absolute honour at bowling at Greg Chappell at that time was some compo at least!), Jerry has given total commitment to MCC ever since!

Since retiring as Vice Chairman, Jerry has remained very visible and involved, whether via for example scoring, watching as many matches as possible, taking a regular table at the Annual Dinner, supporting countless social events at HQ or simply checking the variety of wines available at the bar! In addition, his insight and opinion when sought is invariably balanced and of value.

MANY congrats, Jerry, on being invited and even more “thanks” for accepting the role!
