M & S ARE THE BEST!

Fairly simple/succinct reports re today’s matches, dear readers!

The only win was chalked up by Eurig Mogs’ ‘A’ XI at Murton where his lads saw off Llantwit Major Cavaliers by 74 runs!

Batting first, our guys were inna bit of bovver at 34-6 & then 67-6 halfway through their 40 overs.

THEN, Stuart ‘Seats’ Seaton and 15 year old Malachi Williams touched gloves and tucked into a magnificent feast of runs! They added 163 for the 7th wicket, ending 80no (8 fours & 2 sixes) & 69 (9 fours) respectively! MCC 199-7 at the break after Malachi was run out at the very end.

In reply, Llantwit were never really in the frame..125 all out in the 21st over. Alan Harris (2-19), Captain Morgan (4-41, including his first hattrick, reducing The Cavaliers from 47-3 to 47-6!), Tony Dowrick (3-23) and Geraint Hodges (1-0) shared the 10 wickets!

After the dust had settled, Eurig summed the performance up as “another victory rescued from the jaws of defeat”!

WELL DONE OURE LADS!

At Marespool, the 2nd XI played host to Clydach.

Before tea, our boys chose to bat first and put together a decent total of 231-9 from their 45 overs.

The first wicket fell at 34 but then those present enjoyed a fine partnership of 108 between Gareth Baglow (74, 12 fours & 2 sixes) and Ben Jones (44, 2 fours)..142-2.

There followed a slump as four wickets fell in quick succession – 164-6. Down the order, however, it was left to Vineet Sabharwal (24, 3 fours) and Rhys Davies (26no (4 fours) to restore respectability at the interval.

In turn, Clydach’s start was “wobbly” as Rhys reduced our guests to 16-1. Unfortunately, the MCC optimism at this point was not to last!

There must have been something in the teatime sarnies that appealed to the visitors’ batters from then on! Thanks to excellent batting by Nicky Fisher (119no) and McKenzie Squires (63no), Clydach truly raced to victory by 9 wickets with 14 overs to spare!! Fair play!

Finally, at Cowbridge, our 1st XI came second, by several lengths.

Put into bat, acting Captain Jack Straw watched his team being rolled over for 52. In reply, our hosts roared to their 10 wicket victory inside 5 overs! No more to add!

Next Saturday (8th), the 1st XI welcome Clydach to Marespool, the 2nd XI travel to Neath and the ‘A’ XI make their way to Pontarddulais.
