BAGGERS BATTERS BAGLAN!

Early news today (25th)…our 1st XI match at Penarth was rained off without a ball being bowled!

Slightly later news in..the 2nd XI’s game v Port Talbot at Marespool was abandoned during the first half, with the scoreboard registering an MCC total of 116 – 5 from 20 overs. Prior to the rain winning, Harri Turner (22, 5 fours), Mo Shawkat (29, 4 fours) and Luke Edwards (14no, 3 fours) had been the main contributors.

MEANWHILE, at Baglan’s ground within the Evans Bevans Playing Fields, neatly sandwiched between the M4 & the A48 at Port Talbot, Eurig Morgan’s ‘A’ XI beat the rain to beat the home side!

Batting first, and fielding a team of just nine players, Baglan were dismissed for a modest total of 70 in the 30th over. All six bowlers used were in mean mood, with the wickets taken by Tony Dowrick (4-10), Dave Martin (1-11) and Tom Hannant (2-3 from 4 balls!) today. There was also a run out.

Not wishing to hang around with so much precipitation either side of town, Gareth “Baggers” Baglow was sent in first, with Alan Harris (13, 2 fours)..and, like fellow wicket-keeper/batsman Jonny Bairstow yesterday, he simply dominated things from start to finish!

Baggers struck a masterly/majestic/magnificent 52 (6 fours & 2 sixes) to see his mates home by 8 wickets..in just the 9th over! Nice work, guys!

Let’s hope for better luck with the elements at Carmarthen next Saturday (2nd) when Aneurin Norman’s lads pitch up! At a hopefully dried-out Marespool, our 2nd XI welcome Ammanford whilst the ‘A’ XI meet Llandysul at Murton in their first game of the second half of the season..where does the time go?!!
