CHERYL SAYS “THANKS ALL”..

Thankfully, the weather played its part on Sunday (29th), as so many came along to enjoy one of the great days since our Club acquired and began developing its own ground at Marespool in the mid 1970s.

In memory of Carl Lawrence, former 1st XI Captain 1992-97 & stalwart of MCC for goodness knows how long, and in aid of the British Heart Foundation, a Club XI played a combined Winch Wen/Landore XI in a T20 match. As it happens, the home side won but that was secondary to the enjoyment had, and funds raised, by the crowds of folk who pitched up at Marespool to remember Carl.

Carl, who suddenly & sadly passed away in January this year aged barely 59, was known to have enjoyed a “day out” himself! There was therefore no doubt he would have thoroughly approved of the fun had in his memory, as commented so many times during the afternoon & evening.

Cheryl Lawrence, herself a loyal Club member, was especially pleased at the numbers paying their respects and remembering husband Carl, via the recounting of so many stories and sharing in their memories of his great company and camaraderie at both our Club in two long spells and at Landore CC in between. Indeed, Carl was a regular player at MCC throughout what was permitted of last season, and was so looking forward to doing his bit for his mates again this summer.

The most important and heartfelt words regarding Sunday are those of Cheryl..”I was absolutely blown away by the effort people made. It was such a lovely day and I’ve had so many messages, telling me how much people enjoyed and how appropriate a tribute it was for Carl. I am so grateful to the cricket club, and for everyone’s efforts”.
