As we are well aware, Mark sadly left us just five days before he was to receive his very well deserved British Empire Medal (BEM) at our Club from H.M. Lord Lieutenant of West Glamorgan, Mrs Louise Fleet, CStJ, JP, on behalf of His Majesty King Charles. This was just over a year ago.
Modest Mark was quietly so proud of the bestowment of such recognition by The King for services to sport in Mumbles.
Given the circumstances, Mark’s sister Kate was to subsequently receive the award on behalf of Mark’s family in due course.
For family reasons, this has not been possible…until today!
The venue was switched to Mark’s “other home” at Langland Bay Golf Club where those invited by Mark prior to his passing joined Kate and her son/Mark’s nephew Alex for the formalities.
Kate, Clive Henson of LBGC & MCC, and a great friend of Mark over many years, and H.M. Lord Lieutenant each paid tribute to Mark on this very special occasion.
And all those present were truly honoured to have been part of Pompey’s day today.
