A XI, EH!

It was a mixed day for the Club’s Senior teams yesterday (8th)!

Top of the Pops was the ‘A’ XI who came away from Drefach, triumphant by 40 runs !

Batting first, MCC notched up a total of 166-7 from their 40 overs. Opener Tony Dowrick (64, 4 fours) held things together, whilst the main support came from 15 year old Dan Board (18, 1 four) and Lloyd Roche (21, 2 fours) in the middle order.

In reply, stand-in Captain Eurig Morgan’s Men bowled the home side out for 126 with two overs remaining. All six bowlers employed bowled well, with Nitheesh Kaliyamurthy (3-24), Paddy Jenkins (3-15), Robert Stiddard (1-14), Dan (2-12) and Ryan Runout taking the wickets. Excellent win, team!

At league leaders Penarth, the home side squeezed through by 2 wickets against the 1st XI – a real nail-biter in the end!

Our hosts chose to field first and managed to restrict Aneurin Norman’s charges to a tea total of 181 all out. A below par score maybe, but things could have been a lot worse had it not been for the efforts of 15 year old Tom Ludman (48, 6 fours) and 19 year old Joe Holland (27, 4 fours) in the middle order!

In reply, Captain “Noddy” saw off one opener early: 5-1. That became 51-2, and 121-5 in the 35th over, when Noddy returned to bowl. Could still go either way!

It almost came our way as 3 further quick wickets fell..154-8 at the end of the 42nd!

Alas, what might have been as the 9th wicket pair of Captain Sai Kamuni and Mark Thomas steered Penarth home. They added 31, of which Mark contributed zero not out! Sai had played a fine skipper’s knock of 64, 7 4s & a straight six to get his guys over the line! All our bowlers & fielders had given everything to defend our total, led by Aneurin with 3-28.

At Marespool, our 2nd XI were soundly beaten by Swansea.

Our guests batted first and duly amassed 260-8 in their 45 overs.

To be honest, the Club were never in the mix after tea: 161-9 at the close, defeat by 99 runs.
