In a one-sided Welsh Cup tie at Gowerton this afternoon, captain Sean Davies lead his Mumbles Men to nothing less than a really impressive win by 122 runs!
England pace bowler Mark Wood was quoted last week as saying that it’s only a matter of time before this England One Day squad smash 500 off 50 overs! Well, the Club’s total of 197-3 from 20 overs was, pro rata, not far off that score!!
Whoever took guard for MCC got in on the act! Led by two guys who retired not out, Adam Lewis-Williams (50, 7 fours & 2 sixes) & Luke Edwards (50, 6 fours & 2 sixes), Mike Jarrett (26, 3 fours), Joar Blanck (28 (3 fours) Sean (13, 2 sixes!) and Alex Davies (14no, 1 four) each made hay on Gowerton’s historic ground! And, to be fair to the home team, no bowler gave up fighting..
After the break, it seemed hardly surprising that Gowerton had run out of strength, as they finished on 75-5 from their 20 overs. By definition, each of Sean’s eight bowlers gave nothing away. The wickets were shared by Jacob Nicklin (2), Joe Holland, Lloyd Roche and Alex.
This was a truly remarkable all-round performance from a very promising looking team, many of whom are already playing Senior cricket on Saturdays!
