{"id":7169,"date":"2015-06-16T08:59:00","date_gmt":"2015-06-16T08:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mumblescricket.com\/?page_id=7169"},"modified":"2025-08-19T15:41:56","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T15:41:56","slug":"parental-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.mumblescricket.com\/?page_id=7169","title":{"rendered":"Parental Guidelines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"font-size: 14pt; text-decoration: underline;\"><b>Competitive Cricket 2025<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">This season &#8211;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We have entered 8 teams to compete in the South Wales Junior Cricket League (SWJCL) i.e &#8211;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Under 17s (Tuesdays), Under 15s (2 sides Thursdays), Under 13s (2 sides Mondays), Under 11s (Tuesdays) and Under 10s (Thursday). <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">N.B<\/span>. Match days are occasionally subject to change.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>We have entered the\u00a0 Under 15 &amp; the Under 13 Welsh Cups, and the U15 ECB National Tournament.<\/li>\n<li>Under 9s will participate in a series of round-robin Festivals of friendly softball games against two other clubs on Sundays.<\/li>\n<li>Please click on\u00a0<em>&#8220;Junior Cricket&#8221;<\/em> on the Home Page of our website for full details of the weekly practice time for each age group.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the league where we have two sides in an age group competition, we are required to nominate \u00a0separate squads for each team. Once the season is underway players will not be able to transfer between squads.<\/p>\n<p>As far as possible our policy with respect to competitive cricket is:-<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><b>League Fixtures<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b>1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Rotation of players in the squad throughout the course of the season.\u00a0 Selection will consider individual availability, the balance of the side, and the perceived strength of the opposition.<\/p>\n<p>2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In the majority of matches we will endeavour to give players the opportunity to either bat or bowl. However against stronger opponents, or as the state of the game dictates, this may not always be feasible. Under 13s (Pairs Competition), Under 11, and Under 10 \u00a0age groups play pairs cricket where all are guaranteed to bat. To bowl in a game players must be able to bowl overarm.<\/p>\n<p>3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In the majority of League games we intend to use a minimum of 6 bowlers in each match.<\/p>\n<p>4)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Coach will determine the batting order, and will give the Captain guidance on who should bowl. The Coach will provide on field assistance and guidance. This will be considerable at Under 10 &amp; 11 level, but incrementally less from Under 13\u2019s onwards, as the players hopefully become more competent and tactically aware.<\/p>\n<p>5) \u00a0For each match there will be a nominated Captain. Individuals identified by the Coach as potential leaders will be given the opportunity to captain the side in selected matches.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><b>Knock Out Cup Competitions<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b>1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Our objective will be to progress as far as possible in each cup competition.<\/p>\n<p>2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 To ensure this progression it will not always be possible to guarantee certain levels of involvement for individuals in each match. Players will be deployed to bat and bowl with the objective of securing a winning outcome.<\/p>\n<p>3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Selection will be on merit. The Coaches will pick what they consider to be the best available team from the entire playing membership eligible for the competition concerned. For example,\u00a0re the Under 15\/13 Cups, players in younger age groups will be considered for selection.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><b>Codes of Conduct<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Members and guests are asked at all times to abide by the Club\u2019s Codes of Conduct.<\/p>\n<p>The Codes for (a) our Club Members &amp; Guests and (b)\u00a0our Coaches can be found both on this website&#8217;s &#8220;Home Page&#8221; and on the Spirit of Cricket notice board in the Clubhouse.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Safeguarding<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Please see separate &#8220;Safeguarding&#8221; page within &#8220;Junior Cricket&#8221; on our website for full information regarding this increasingly important subject<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><b>Administration<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><b style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Will all Parents and Guardians please help us by:<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Giving us as much notice as possible of your child\u2019s availability for matches and respond promptly to group notifications.<\/li>\n<li>Where required, complete a Registration Form with e-mail address, and mobile phone number so we may notify you of selection, training times etc, usually via a \u2018Whats App\u2019 group initiated by the age group coach.<\/li>\n<li>Pay membership fees promptly<\/li>\n<li>Make every effort to be punctual for matches and training<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Above all, let us all look forward to an enjoyable, successful, and hopefully dry season!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>Thank you!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><b>Junior Kit Guide<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><b>\u00a0<\/b>Mumbles Cricket Club is aware that potentially cricket can be quite costly for parents (especially when you have more than one child who plays the game).<\/p>\n<p>If you visit a retail shop, or cricket equipment website, there will be a vast selection of bats, pads, helmets, and other accessories for sale. Don\u2019t worry, not all of these are essential for your child to own! The Club provides age group communal kit bags, with bats, pads, gloves and helmets which junior players are welcome to use.<\/p>\n<p>All Juniors from the age of 10 years (school year 5) will have the opportunity to play competitive cricket, and are expected to have at least a coloured Club playing shirt, cricket trousers and a Club cap.<\/p>\n<p>These items, as well as other Club cricket clothing and an extensive range of\u00a0 MCC leisurewear, are only available through our online supplier Serious Cricket. Please visit our online <em>&#8220;Kit Store&#8221;<\/em> via the link on this website&#8217;s Home Page.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">It is essential that all Junior cricketers have their own abdominal protector (or \u2018box\u2019). This must always be worn when batting against a hard ball. <\/span>Wearing the box is made a lot easier if you have the right underwear on! \u00a0Box underwear will have a pouch in the front to secure the box into position. There are many \u2018budget\u2019 sports retailers that sell these items at reasonable prices.<\/p>\n<p>Cricket shoes (spikes) are not essential, trainers are acceptable.
